Accommodations for the Wedding
Strap yourselves in, you’re getting the full Canadian experience and we’re going camping, eh.
Calm down, it’s not that rustic.
We’ve booked out the whole venue so all guests will be able to stay on-site at the Ruby Lake Resort (where the wedding is taking place) - we have free run of the place for the whole weekend so we’ll be making the most of it.
Check in is from 3pm on Friday 4th July and we’ll all need to be checked out by 11am on Sunday 6th July.
**Important Info**
You'll need to book your room directly with the resort on or after the RSVP deadline - 5th January 2025'. Please make sure you do this after this date, so that we have a full picture of the guest list, as we'll need to provide this to the venue beforehand
How to do this:
Because our dates have been blocked out on their calendar (and we’re dealing with an old school operation here) you’ll need to either call or email them on the details below to book your spot. We’d suggest calling, because, well frankly, email efficiency isn’t exactly their forté.
Email - info@rubylakeresort.com
Phone Number - +1 (604) 883-2269
*Important notes - just let them know that you’re guests of the Parsons/O’Reilly wedding - we’ve pre-selected all of the rooms for you based on the layout and available facilities, so they will have a record of your names and where you’re staying and will ask for payment of 1 night up front, with the 2nd night due on check out.
UK folks, if you’re having any major issues getting them on the phone at a time that works for you (we’re 8 hours behind GMT over here), and you’ve run into email trouble then please just give us a nudge.
Oh and pack your trunks! There will be a private dock on the lake, kayaks, paddleboards and ample opportunity to swim with Mayo, if you feel so inclined.
Accommodations Outside of the Wedding
First of all, from the bottom of our hearts, we are both so grateful to all of you for the efforts you are making in order to spend this time with us. It’s not lost on us how far some of you are coming and it’s a really big deal.
With that said, we wanted to help make your trip as easy and hassle free as possible. Not all of you will be staying for an extended trip, but for those of you who are, here you will find some options for accommodation before and after the wedding weekend, please also check out the travel and local area info pages for a bit more detail.
We’ve broken the accommodation down by area and made some notes next to each one for context. We’ve only included accommodation options on the coast, but for those of you feeling adventurous and want to take advantage of the proximity to some pretty incredible landscapes, please check out the travel and local info pages.
Full disclosure - we haven’t stayed at all of these places (obviously), but we’ve cherry picked a few after some research and asking around, feel free to do your own scout out online. We’ve noted next to the options that we do have experience with or have stayed at though!
Lower Sunshine Coast
The lower sunshine coast is our backyard and where the wedding will take place. There’s lots of places to explore and all within an hour’s drive of each other. The main locations are Gibsons, Roberts Creek, Sechelt, Halfmoon Bay and Madeira Park - for more information, see the local info page.
Gibsons Garden Hotel - one of a few hotels in Gibsons, if you’d prefer that over an airbnb or rental
The Cedars Inn - another hotel option
Gibsons Landing Inn - final hotel option, great location
Bonniebrook Lodge - a little outside of the main town of Gibsons near Bonniebrook beach (which is splendid)
This is the main town you’ll arrive at when getting off the ferry, beautiful views, nice little shops, right by the waterfront, restaurants and bars.
Gibsons
Airbnb options - we’d advise getting an airbnb or similar if that’s your vibe, there’s many cool options and things are a little cheaper if you don’t mind being a little more removed from the town, here are a few quick options we know of/found on a quick search but please do a quick search to see what’s about:
The other main town on the lower coast, a little bigger than Gibsons with more restaurants, bars and shops - less nice, but still has its charm. Most of the places listed below are a little outside of the main town or up the inlet as it’s much nicer.
Sechelt
The Spot at Porpoise Bay - right by the airport, on the water and next to the pub
Rockwater Secret Cove Resort - we stayed here for a night and it’s pretty awesome - if you’re into safari tents on cliff edges with whirlpool tubs that is
Tranquility Bay - we almost decided to have the wedding here and can confirm it's pretty special. It’s also run by a former westcountry chap called Nigel who loves country music and knocking back ciders…what could be better?
Tuwanek Hotel - another ‘almost’ wedding spot - pretty spectacular
Stay Wilder - not a fan of walls or civilization? Wanna go full tree hugger? This might be the one. It’s been on our list to go, we haven’t yet but heard pretty amazing things
Airbnb options - search ‘Sechelt’ and surrounding area, there’s lots of gems available out there
This is up near the venue and close to the ferry across to the north end of the coast, small town, not much to report.
Madeira Park
Ruby Lake Resort - this is of course, our wedding venue, and if you just can’t get enough, you could book a few days either side of the wedding dates - feel free to chat to them about this when you book your spot for the wedding
Painted Boat Spa - heard very good things and looks pretty nice indeed
Pender Harbour Resort - lovely little spot
Backeddy Resort - lots of options for different accommodation styles, cracking pub too.
The upper sunshine coast is a short ferry ride from the lower coast which is located right around the corner from where the wedding will take place (see travel page for more info). The main town (largest on the coast) is Powell River where you could jump on a ferry to Vancouver Island or make your way further up the coast to Lund (which is beautiful) - for more information, see the local info page.
We haven’t spent a lot of time up here, so will leave this one up to you, but I can highly recommend heading up to Lund, it's beautiful. There’s a great restaurant spot up that way too called the Laughing Oyster
